The Al Ahli Bank in Manama, Bahrain, is located in an important crossroads at the intersection of the 38th avenue with the 2819th road. The plot is occupied by two different volumes that are connected by a bridge. One is the bank office building facing the main street and the other is a triangular parking structure in the background, on the western side of the plot. The eastern side is occupied by outdoor parking spaces.
The bank office building has two wings on either side of a four stories central atrium. In contrast with the northern side of the atrium that is straight, rigid and optically heavy, the southern side is curved, fluent and light. The scenic elevators, the glass bridge connecting the two wings and the opposite metal hanged stair are the main atrium features; all under a generous skylight that brings the day light into the building body.
The main feature of the complex is a canopy obtained by the prolongation of the atrium roof towards outside over the main entrance. A unique sustaining concrete pillar opening in an umbrella steel truss - based in a circular water feature - sustains the canopy, creating an impressive covered area used as the main public entrance for the building.
