Hotel, hotel apartments, apartments, offices, shopping mall & health facilities.
Description
The Al Watya complex benefits from its position in proximity to both the centre of Kuwait City as well as the sea. A “U shaped” podium, with its ground and mezzanine floors above a 2 level underground parking, is dedicated to commercial functions. The remaining three functions of the complex (hotel, offices and apartments) are housed in three different volumes, each with a definitive architectural character.
The main tower is located at the intersection of the other volumes and houses the hotel. The hotel rooms are arranged around a semi-circular atrium facing the sea. The triangular volume towards the city, dedicated to apartments and the semicircular one towards the sea, housing the offices, are connected by a three floored bridge from the hotel.
The third compound of the complex, the residential tower, has been resolved on a simple stretch, by pointing the apartments towards the sea. As a volume, we have opted for a curved bar that ascends towards the end of the complex. Given that there was little free space, all terraces are used intensively to accommodate sports facilities as well as greenery. Such functions include two swimming pools, one for the hotel and one for the residential tower, that are accompanied by a health club. All these different elements of the volumes come together in a complex which looks different from each angle to the pedestrian.
